Cherry Blossom & f Street
The concept of the f street scarf started many years ago. Around 1995 I began to use vintage wool coats as the primary fabric for my handbags. At that time the beautiful woven damask labels were so plentiful and I sewed them to my market tent and booth curtains.Twenty some years later the labels are very hard to come by. How could I translate the nostalgia for the good, old stores into something that was affordable and wearable? That was when I started working on this scarf.

My goal was to make a cherry blossom scarf that was not cute and floral. I decorate my studios at Torpedo Factory and at the Brookland Arts Walk with branches adorned with handmade, wool felt blossomes. I photographed these from a variety of angles, then I digitally"cut out" the blanches and blossomed. I was able to take those images and resize, layer and manipulate them on Photoshop. I am so happy with the result. I think it is more graphic than cute and move elegant than floral. The scarf is 100% silk twill and the printing was done in Italy.
